Digital communication is an accepted business practice but sometimes there's nothing like a real live person to drive home an idea.
I tell our sales and tech staff that after a couple of email rounds with no end in sight, lift up the phone.
When I get a IM or text reply with the comment, "What u mean?", its time 2 switch channels.
Our support group recently added live training webinars. Why? Easier to show a group of users a live demo than email instructions back and forth infinitum.
A prospect located 20 minutes from our office asked for pricing online. I suggested a face-to-face at their office. My competitor has no sales staff in town. Who do you think will win this game?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan for the efficiency of email, text, IM, social media and other forms of digital communication. But each has its place with unique strengths and weaknesses.
Be aware of the limits for each.
