I listened to a speech given b
y Governor of Indiana, Mitch Daniels earlier this week at the invitation of the local Entrepreneurs' Organization chapter. This was a big win for EO as the Governor has many more speaking invitations that he can accept.
The theme of his talk was jobs and how they are created. According to the gov, big business does not create jobs, it eliminates them. Existing businesses do not create jobs, they preserve them. Only new businesses create jobs. Mitch is intently interested in creating jobs in Indiana; therefore, the reason for his appearance at an organization that nurtures entrepreneurs.
The lesson for all businesses: look for new ways to create revenue. Not product line extensions. Not service enhancements. But entirely new products and services that don't exist. Delivra is an example of that kind of thinking.
When Delivra was founded ten years ago there were few email service providers. Email addresses for the most part did not even exist on business cards. Today the ESP industry serves hundreds of thousands of organizations worldwide.
New business requires new ways of thinking about business.
