Neil Berman | Delivra Email BlogI'm a regular tweeter @nfberman and occasionally have a decent thing or two to relate. Below are some of my recent posts. Hope you find them informative.

09-20 Sad state of affairs: 55% of email marketers say they're batch blasting rather than segmenting according to a study by Return Path.

Missed Email Marketing Opportunity

Wednesday, September 12, 2012 by Neil Berman

Missed Email Marketing OpportunityI spent Labor Day weekend in Chicago attending the 34th Annual Jazz Festival in Grant Park. The weather was perfect 70's (remnants of hurricane Issac missed the loop) and Chicago jazz is renowned for its quality - even better when it's free and outdoors.

What struck me was nowhere was I asked for my email address. The preponderance of smart phones at the event and around town was obvious. A text to subscribe call-to-action at any of the venues I visited is a no-brainer. So why not attempt to...

Ubiquitous Internet

Monday, August 20, 2012 by Neil Berman

Ubiquitous InternetI recently spent the night at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge located in the Western Cape region of South Africa. Buffelsdrift is a private reserve offering a bushveld experience complete with comfortable tent-style lodging.

I spent the morning viewing elephants and other wildlife from a perch overlooking a lake with a snow-capped mountain backdrop. It was a pristine moment. However, upon checkout, I was jerked back into reality. A placard on the counter read:

  • Find us on Facebook
  • Follow us on Twitter

How Southwest Airlines Blew It

Thursday, July 5, 2012 by Neil Berman

AirplaneMy April 3, 2012 post related how Southwest Airlines snagged my email address with a clever on-board peanut bag advertisement. See: http://www.delivra.com/blog/neil-berman/how-southwest-airlines-acquires-email-addresses.

Well, after receiving almost daily email promotions (or it seemed like it), I unsubscribed. Really, how often does a person fly? That should be a clue for determining frequency. Or why not just ask me utilizing a profile form?

Moral of the story: Don't burn a new relationship by...

All Tiki No Leaky?

Monday, June 25, 2012 by Neil Berman

Shame on your recent Kindle advertisement Amazon.

I know you own diapers.com, but you broke the cardinal rule of online advertising in sending an offer that is 'not relevant to me'.

Now, I can't blame them for taking advantage of prime ad placement space previously occupied by illustrious author renderings. But, don't wreck your brand for short term gain.

My options? Buy a Nook or iPad or Samsung tablet. Or just ignore it as there's no unsubscribe option.

We regularly advise our email marketing...

Social Sharing Gone Wild

WOW! This social sharing option list is kind of crazy - it even has a search tool.

Thankfully, I can make more sense of email marketing (my career love).

Email Now More Than Ever - Part 2

Monday, June 11, 2012 by Neil Berman

AirplaneMy last blog post was about my girl friend's unfortunate experience in Hanoi while attempting to fly to Hong Kong. See it here

Later that same day, I was flying to meet up with her. After an hour delay in Detroit to repair the plane's satellite guidance system (thank goodness for that) and another hour delay circling the Hong Kong airport waiting for a thunderstorm to pass, I landed.

The travel agency had arranged for a driver to pick me up and transport me to the hotel. I deplaned, passed...

Email Now More Than Ever

Monday, June 4, 2012 by Neil Berman

Airline TicketRecently, my iPhone rang at 7:00am. It was a Skype call from my girl friend who is traveling in Asia. She was at the airport in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Her travel agency had booked a flight from Hanoi to Hong Kong. She was attempting to get a boarding pass. The airline had her name and reservation number but insisted on a ticket number to issue the boarding pass, which of course, she did not have.

She tried calling the travel agency but no phone service was available. She tried logging in to the agency...
