TREND ALERT: Special Characters in Subject Lines

Wednesday, August 22, 2012 by eMailchatr Delivra Blog

We've seen more and more companies using symbols in their subject lines - specifically ♥ and ✈. See an example below:

Special Characters in Subject Lines

This is the latest trend email marketers are using to entice people to open their emails. There are a couple of things to consider before implementing symbols into your email campaigns.

First, you should determine if using symbols makes sense for your company and brand. If so, figure out the best symbols to use. If you are in the travel industry, the image of an airplane will likely be a good fit. Or if you are a retailer, perhaps you use the sun to announce HOT Summer Savings.

As with anything new, you want to make sure you don't overdo it! Because this trend is the latest and greatest, more companies will be trying it out. This means, your subscriber's already crowded inbox will likely start becoming even more jam-packed with symbols. Don't overwhelm them or they could start to expect it and gloss right over a message.
