Getting ready to get ready…

Oak TreeIt’s interesting to hear the stalls that small business owners offer up in an attempt to justify prolonging their sideline status as it relates to e-mail marketing.

  • “We are finalizing our new web site, and then we will do something”
  • “We have already allocated our entire budget for traditional snail-mail”
  • “I don’t have time to write a monthly newsletter”
  • “I don’t have a list that is large enough”  (this is my personal favorite)

Some of this is true for all marketing mediums I am sure, but the fact is that these owners could get started utilizing marketing's highest ROI% medium out there, often times for no more than they pay for their monthly cell phone bill.

Like most things, the most difficult step is the first one.  Small-Business owners get so wrapped up working IN the business, that they have trouble stepping back and seeing the importance of working ON the business.  The ability to organically grow your opt-in list, send surveys to clients, segment based upon those survey responses, solidify your brand, and ultimately grow sales all start with one thing…the all important first step.  I read a great quote one time that summarizes this thought… "There are two ways to get to the top of an oak tree…sit on an acorn, or start climbing…which one are you doing?”
